Tomas Farinha Carney is a Master of European Studies student at KU Leuven, majoring in Europe and Asia. Previously, Tomas Farinha Carney graduated from the University of South Florida (USF) with a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies with a second major in Economics and a Minor in History. At USF he also undertook a study abroad at Akita International University in 2019.
Having grown up in Portugal, the United States, Mozambique, Namibia, Botswana, Kenya, and Israel, Tomas Farinha Carney brings an international perspective to his research at EIAS. Furthermore, his background in economics and international studies, allows him to take a more holistic view on issues that impact East Asia.
While at EIAS, Tomas Farinha Carney will be focusing on researching the international politics of Japan and China, the changing geopolitical dynamics of South East Asia, and the European Union and United State’s role in the region.
