Zahra Beg graduated from the University of Edinburgh in Arabic & Middle Eastern Studies in 2019. Her thesis examined the failure of communism during the Dhofar war in Oman during the 1960s and 70s. Working for The Anglo-Omani Society she studied factors leading to religious tolerance and the importance of balancing geopolitical actors in the Gulf region. Being fluent in the use of social media, enjoying photography and discovering different cultures, she launched a photoblog, during her year abroad in Jordan, to promote travel within different countries in the Middle East, including Egypt, Lebanon, Israel and Palestine. Being a product of living in Luxembourg, Belgium, Kazakhstan, Hong Kong, Scotland and Jordan she is always eager to add a new language under her belt and keen to further bridge the understanding of EU-Asia relations. During her time at EIAS, Zahra Beg will focus on the impact of COVID-19 and the EU’s Connectivity strategy.
