This year marks the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Bangladesh’s independence leader and Father of the Nation. This accounts for an immensely auspicious and significant moment in the history of the Bengali nation. The ‘Mujib Year’ will commemorate Bangabandhu’s commitments, dedication and visions to promote global harmony and equality, offering a voice to the vulnerable, not only in Bangladesh but worldwide. To date, Mujib’s aspirations and initiatives continue to guide Bangladesh’s efforts to build a society free from poverty, discriminations and exploitation, paving the path to a self-confident and prosperous ‘Sonar Bangla’ (Bengal of gold). With most sectors of the economy, infrastructure, connectivity, industrial and agricultural services rapidly growing, Bangladesh has become the world’s 40th biggest economy in 2020, second largest exporter of ready-made garments, and fourth largest producer of rice. With Mujib’s daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the helm of the Government, Bangladesh takes pride in showing gratitude to its founding father for laying the foundations of its nation now developing into a middle-income country and one of the fastest growing economies in the world.

The European Institute for Asian Studies (EIAS) and the Embassy of Bangladesh cordially invite you to a Public Seminar on 16 March 2020 honouring and celebrating the legacy of Mujib and discussing his vision for the socio-economic development of present-day Bangladesh, and its future prospects.
